Delta Fiber LLC, Delta Electric Power Association’s wholly owned broadband subsidiary doing business as DE LightSpeed, is announcing an expansion of its existing high speed, fiber internet network to additional areas of Delta Electric’s service territory over the next five years. Areas that will get the high speed internet service by September 2021 include southwest Carroll County, southwest Grenada County, northern Holmes County, and eastern Leflore County. By December 2021, additional areas of southern Carroll County and northern Holmes County along with most of Montgomery County and part of southern Grenada County will be included in the expansion. The western area of Delta Electric’s service territory will get the high speed internet service in years 2022-2025. A map of the 2021 expansion is attached.
In the summer of last year, Delta Electric received matching CARES Act grant funds from the State of Mississippi in the amount of
$4.9 million dollars to fund a pilot broadband project in northern Carroll County. DE LightSpeed began connecting Delta Electric customers to its high speed internet service just before Thanksgiving. The pilot broadband project is expected to be complete by March 31, 2021. DE LightSpeed is offering residential and business fiber internet service with maximum speeds of 1000 Meg or Gigabit service.

Delta Fiber LLC (“Delta Fiber”) is pleased to announce that it was a winning bidder for $46.9 million dollars of grant support over ten years from the Federal Communications Commission (“FCC”) to expand its gigabit, fiber to the premise, high-speed internet network to certain FCC designated rural areas within the service territory of its parent company, Delta Electric Power Association (“Delta Electric”). Delta Fiber is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta Electric and operates an existing internet service provider under the name, DE LightSpeed. Under the terms of this pending FCC award, Delta Fiber will expand its existing internet service over a six year period to FCC designated unserved or underserved rural areas of Bolivar, Carroll, Grenada, Holmes, Leflore, Montgomery, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, and Washington Counties. This broadband expansion project is designed to pass 10,465 FCC designated locations that have less than 25/3 (25 Mbps download/3 Mbps upload) internet service or no internet service at all.

NORTH CARROLLTON — It felt like I was watching a historic moment for this area, when Delta Electric General Manager David O’Bryan presented this past week to the Carroll County Board of Supervisors the utility cooperative’s fiber broadband project.
Delta Electric has been awarded a $4,431,896 grant by the Mississippi Public Utilities Staff to build a fiber-to-the-home network and make broadband internet services available in certain areas of Carroll and Grenada counties by year’s end. Delta Electric will match this grant with funds in efforts to complete this project by the end of 2020.

High-speed internet is coming to Carroll County in a big way.
Delta Electric Power Association received word Tuesday that is has been awarded a $4.4 million matching grant that will enable it to get in the business of providing broadband service and more, along with electricity.
"It's going to benefit a lot of people and improve the quality of life for a lot of folks. So we're excited about being a part if it," said David O'Bryan, general manager of Delta Electric, who will also serve as CEO of the electric cooperative's internet subsidiary, Delta Fiber LLC.
